Disparate ratio of healthcare workers to citizens, with thousands of posts vacant.

NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) informed that 51,000+ vacancies for healthcare professionals are lying unoccupied in various health centres across the country.

Statistically, across all the states and UTs., the Ministry reported 1,720,319 registered doctors including 2.89 lakh dentists, 13.01 lakh allopathic doctors and other allied health care professionals. Also, according to the data provided by the Indian Nursing Council, 23.4 lakh nurses and midwives, and 10 lakh nurse associates are providing services simultaneously.

Bharati P Pawar, Ministry of state for health provided numbers for all health care centres as of March 31, 2020 including 38,000+ primary heath care centre community centre, divisional or district hospitals, central government hospitals.

The data when calculated, comes up to a disproportionate number of 1:834 for doctor-citizen ratio with nurse-citizen ration being 1.96:1,000.
